Counter Offers Explained: We’ll Get You The Most We Can
When your approved loan amount is lower than requested, Possible has issued a counter offer based on budget affordability and state regulations. Approval amounts are determined by balancing applicant requests against detected income, debt-to-income limits required by state laws, existing loan obligations and calculated risk scores to ensure repayment remains manageable.

ELLEN We’re gonna look at what it is you requested, and try as hard as we can to give you what you requested because you know the best as to what you need. ELLEN All right, Janie! JANIE Hi! I’m just wondering that if you apply for a loan, and say, for instance, you apply for $400, and they come back and tell you they can’t approve you for the $400 but they can approve you for the $360? ELLEN Yeah, so I know it can be frustrating when you apply for a loan for, say, $400, and we come back and we do what we call a counter offer, and approve you for a lower loan size. ELLEN When we’re looking at, you know, the loan size we’re going to give to a customer, we’re gonna look at what it is you requested, and try as hard as we can to give you what you requested because you know the best as to what you need. ELLEN But we also need to look at what the state lets us give you. So, in some of the states that we operate in, there are specific debt-to-income requirements that we have to operate within. Some states we actually have to get a view of other loans you have, and make sure the payment against all loans is below a certain level. So we make sure that the payment can fit within your budget based on what we see from your Plaid data. ELLEN And so we put all of those pieces together: what we detect as income and what payment we think you can afford, what you want, and the maximum amount we’re willing to give someone with your current risk score, and those pieces all come together to determine the loan size that you’re ultimately approved for, but we really do pay attention to what you want and, where possible, try to get you that amount. Thank you for your question, Janie!
