It could be 20 points, 40 points, 60 points. There's no clear formula, it depends on the circumstances. 0:29 But if you have a lot of debt, bankruptcy actually can help your ability to get other loans. When you file for bankruptcy, when that process is completed, a lot of your debt is wiped out. So your monthly obligations are lower. 0:42 And so, lenders like to see lower debt obligations. And so while your credit score goes down, a number of lenders actually may be more willing to lend to you after bankruptcy. 0:54 Lenders look at different things, not just your credit score. Filing for bankruptcy actually can be helpful in getting other loans, but it does have a fairly long-lasting impact on your credit score.
