What to Know About Starting Your Credit Journey
When you start on your credit journey, you don’t simply begin at zero or with a perfect score. You actually won’t have an official score until a few months have passed since you opened your first line of credit, like a loan or credit card. Your score will also be dependent on if your payments were made on time.

We need to talk about your credit. Welcome back to Credit Corner. Hey, I'm Ellen, Chief Credit Officer at Possible. TransUnion just reported that 50% of Gen Z consumers are planning to apply for new credit or refinance existing credit, like a loan or a card, within the next year. That's up from 41% last year and compared to just 32% for the entire population, that's a lot. So picture this: you just got your first big job with a steady paycheck. And the credit card offers just keep coming. You're thinking, wait, what's my credit score again? So what credit score do you start with? You actually don't start at zero and work your way up, and you don't start with a perfect high credit score when you're just starting out. You actually won't have an exact number until a few months after you've opened up a line of credit. By paying that first loan or credit card on time and keeping up with it, you will be on the right track. Follow up for more tips on all things credit.
