Why You Are Bigger Than Your Credit Score
A low credit score reflects past financial hurdles rather than your character. To move forward into a stronger financial future, you must separate your self-worth from your credit history. Try to establish habits like paying bills on time and improving your credit mix.
Transcript
I know some people really tie their credit score to who they are as a person, and that's really not helpful or true. Having a bad credit score doesn't mean you're bad. It means you've had some troubles with your credit and paying bills back in the past. I really worry when people feel like their credit score translates to who they are as a person, because that makes it really hard to move forward. And when you're dealing with credit, the goal is to move forward from where you are and bring your credit to a better place. That means paying your bills on time and having the right mix of credit. But just because you've had troubles in the past, your credit score and your credit history can't speak to the why. So don't conflate your credit score with who you are as a person.
