Improve your credit score with a credit builder loan
A credit builder loan improves low credit scores by holding the loan principal in a secured savings account while you make regular monthly payments. The lender reports these payments to the credit bureaus and the saved funds are released to you once the loan is fully paid off.

ELLEN: There are credit builder loans out there. These are products in which you would get out a loan. That loan may pay existing bills or may not. And you start making payments every month. They start reporting those payments to the credit bureau. And because they're not giving you money up front, you're making the payments, they're putting the proceeds from that loan into a security account or a savings account. And when you complete all of the payments on that loan, that money is available for you. But it reports as a loan to the credit bureau. That can also be a way to improve your credit score from a level like 500 up to something where you have more eligibility.
